ABOUT UNMASK INITIATIVE

Let's tell you about us

Unmask Initiative for Mental Wellbeing is a registered, not-for-profit organisation in Nigeria committed to advancing emotional wellbeing, mental health awareness, literacy development, and personal resilience across all age groups — children, youth, adults, and older persons. Founded in 2025, Unmask was created in response to the increasing emotional, social, and mental health pressures faced by Nigerians, particularly in underserved communities where stigma, silence, and lack of access remain major barriers.

The Problem We’re Responding To

Across Nigeria, many people are silently navigating emotional stress, mental health challenges, and personal struggles without the support or language to express what they are going through.

Children often grow up without being taught how to understand or communicate their emotions. Young adults face increasing pressure around identity, expectations, and life transitions. Adults juggle work, family, and societal demands while carrying emotional burdens they rarely speak about. Older adults may experience loneliness or emotional isolation with limited spaces for meaningful support.

At the same time, conversations about mental health are still surrounded by stigma in many communities. Access to support services remains limited, and many people feel they must simply endure their struggles in silence. This gap between what people feel and the support available to them is where Unmask Initiative was born..

WHY WE DIFFER

We speak your language mentally

We use creative, science-backed, culturally sensitive approaches such as storytelling, literacy programs, community outreach, neuroscience-informed education, and safe-space initiatives to help people “unmask” — to loosen the emotional weight they carry quietly, and to find healthier ways to express themselves, connect, and grow. Although still in early stages, Unmask is building strong founctional structures, pilot programs, and partnerships to scale its impact across Lagos State and beyond.

Our Vision

A Nigeria where people of all ages can understand themselves, express their emotions safely, and access supportive environments that strengthen their mental wellbeing and personal development.

Our Mission

To promote mental health awareness, reduce stigma, empower individuals with emotional and personal development skills, and create accessible platforms that support healing, literacy, resilience, and authentic expression.
